Pier 27 site work update
GFL crews have been working on excavation & clean cap backfilling north of the 15 Queens Quay East tower, adjacent Queens Quay. Work was delayed this week and last due to weather conditions, while substantially complete on most of the west side of the site, some backfilling remains to be done.
There will be on-site focused on interior work and general site housekeeping, depending on the impact of the expected mixed rain and snow. Work will be underway from 9 am on Saturday through the afternoon.
Crews have completed the parking garage access ramp [Ramp 3] for 15 Queens Quay. Work is now focussed on installing the pavers for the 15 Queens Quay roundabout access lane, and the adjacent pedestrian walkways.
Crews are close to completing the cladding on the south face of the mechanical penthouse. They will be continuing this work, weather permitting, over the coming week and a half.
Over the coming days, crews will be installing cladding on the ground floor areas that are not covered in glazing (windows). The visible ‘blue skin’ insulating material will be covered with permanent cladding. Again, weather conditions may slow progress but the forecast for the balance of the week and next is for mostly milder temperatures so progress should be steady.
Once backfilling is complete on Friday, west of the driveway, clean cap work will move east of the main driveway, north of the existing Sales Centre. Because of the weather delay this past week, we now expect the main driveway into Pier 27 will be restricted to one lane from Monday, January 27 through Friday, January 31. Crews will manage traffic flows to minimize disruption.
Interior work is now concentrated on floors 18 to 34. Suites in the lower floors are either complete or require only final finishing. Work is progressing well toward the planned occupancies from mid-March 2020 onwards through the spring and summer.
Work is ongoing on the hardscaping on the west, east, and south side of the 15 Queens Quay East tower. This includes the initial stages of work on restoring the connection to the 29 Queens Quay roundabout.
Cladding on the west, east and north faces of the mechanical penthouse is substantially complete. The west face is shown in the image above.
The chiller for the building air conditioning system at 15 Queens Quay has been installed in the mechanical penthouse. Work will continue over the next few weeks to complete connections and test the systems.
